About Nordic Blinds
Specialising in high quality Nordic style window treatments for the harsh Australian climate, we started as a Canberra-based family-run business and have grown to cover ACT, Sydney, NSW and greater Melbourne. We also provide a remote service across the rest of Australia, assisting with measuring, fabric selection and installation from afar.When Annette and David, who met in London in the mid-nineties, renovated their home in 2013, having grown up in Denmark, Annette was acutely aware that you don’t have to be cold inside if it is cold outside so they went on to fully insulate their home and install European hydronic heating and uPVC tilt and turn windows. Dressing the tilt and turn windows turned out to be a challenge so when she came across the German custom made Cosiflor® blinds, they decided to install them. They were so impressed with the blinds that Annette contacted the German manufacturer to discuss the potential of importing the blinds into the Australian market.
And that is how
Nordic Blinds came to be.
It was a steep learning curve! Annette initially did everything herself, right down to using an electric drill for the first time in her life, to ensure she understood the whole process fully. As the business grew, David took over as installer, Tanya joined to assist and bring in interior design expertise, and Karin joined the Nordic Blinds journey from Melbourne.
We love connecting with clients to guide and inspire them on best options for their windows and doors and we maintain strong links to both window companies, builders and architects who believe in and promote our products. Annette has also kept her solid association with the manufacturers in Germany. We all tend to get very excited every time we help a client find the right blinds for their home, and even more so when customers contact us after their blinds have been installed to tell how happy they are. Needless to say, we all have Cosiflor® blinds installed in our homes…
Annette’s original belief in the importance of comfort, style and energy efficiency in the home was recognised when she was awarded 2018 Canberra Women in Business Microbusiness of the Year for her tireless work to introduce a product that offers all of that.
